Body Lotion
Sunset Health organic body lotions are a healthy alternative to name brand lotions that contain artificial ingredients. Our body lotions and hydration creams are naturally derived and made from quality organic ingredients like Rice Bran oil and Japanese Green Tea.
The Purpose of Body Lotion
Body lotion has many practical and aesthetic uses. Its most common use is as a treatment for dry skin, but it can also be a great confidence booster, particularly if you can find a scented lotion that complements your preferences and body chemistry. Lotion provides gentle exfoliation, softens your skin and adds valuable nutrients to your skin so you look and feel healthier.
There are many other benefits to using body lotion:
- Improved skin elasticity to reduce injury
- Accelerated skin regeneration
- Optimized absorption of nutrients
- Increased ability to fight free radicals
Body Lotion Versus Body Cream
While searching for a healthy body lotion, you will likely come across a plethora of other products, including body creams and body butters, that appear to have the same purpose.
There is a small but distinct difference between body cream and body lotion, and it has to do with viscosity, the measure of thickness or density of a substance. Body lotions are typically lighter than creams, as they have less oil and more water content. Creams, on the other hand, have less water and more oil. Body butters have an even higher amount of oil and the thickest consistency.
Body butters are useful if you have really dry skin, but choosing between a body lotion and body cream is more about personal preference and subtle differences in body chemistry and skin types. Because they’re thicker and contain more oil, body creams provide more skin hydration than lotions. If you have extra dry skin, body cream might be a better choice. However, creams can also leave your skin feeling oily and can clog your pores; if your skin is already oily, you should use body lotion instead of the thicker creams or butters.
Using Body Lotion Correctly
To get the most benefit from your natural body lotion, you should use it right after a shower. You absorb the oils in body lotion best when your skin is semi-wet and warm. Your skin also dries faster after a shower due to the evaporation of the water left on it after washing.
While there is no wrong way to apply body lotion to your skin, using more than your body can absorb is wasteful and can be costly in the long run. The best way to apply lotion is to put small amounts on your hand and rub it into areas where you have rough skin. Using a circular motion to apply the lotion ensures you have rubbed it in completely and covered all your trouble areas.
